Message of the Day: God’s Awesome Sovereignty

Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways!” (Romans 11:33, ESV)

In 9:1-11:36, Paul addressed the tension between God’s faithfulness and Jewish unfaithfulness and concludes this section of his epistle with a doxology. He bows in praise and wonder before God’s awesome sovereignty. He praises God’s wisdom in designing history as he has so that salvation would be available to all peoples. God is the source and director of human history, and all things – even the evil choices of sinful humans – would in the end glorify him and the rightness of his wisdom.

God’s sovereign choice, far from being unjust, has been the means of his mercy being extended to people of all nations. This display his unsearchable wisdom and causes his thankful people to give him praise and glory.

Message of the Day: Praise For God’s Wisdom and Mercy!

Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and His ways past finding out!” (Romans 11:33, NKJV)

Paul closes this section with a doxology, or praise to God (11:33-36). He praises God’s wisdom in designing history in such a way that salvation would be available to all the people of the world. God is the source and director of human history, everything – even evil choices of sinful human beings – would in the end glorify him and the rightness of his wisdom.

Jews and non-Jews have both been disobedient to God, however, just as the Jews were the means of God’s mercy for the Gentiles, so the Gentiles became the means of his mercy to the Jews. Since all have sinned, God can have mercy on all.

We praise God for his wisdom and mercy, he made his salvation available to everybody. In his sovereign choice, he made this design possible. Thank you Lord! We give praise to you!
